Podcast: Bob Gilbreath on Going beyond ‘It’s Just Business’
Published October 7, 2025 by pgalums in
There’s something about the phrase “It’s just business” that’s always felt wrong—especially when it’s used to justify layoffs, burnout, or bad behavior.
But what if there’s more to the story? Hear how one leader wrestles with the tension between leadership, empathy, and the messiness of modern work — from the cruelty of corporate language to the uncomfortable idea that even bad bosses and BS jobs might serve a purpose. It’s a raw look at how we lead, how we’re led, and how we can find meaning in the middle of the madness.
This conversation is from P&G Alum Bob Gilbreath’s podcast & newsletter “The Workaround” — Bob is a repeat startup founder with two exits. Bob’s stories and conversations — from a career in tech startups and corporate innovation — are here to make you think, smile, and discover a shortcut to success or a trap to avoid. We’ve enjoyed an amazing P&G Alumni Network global conference. We’ve visited old friends and made new ones. As we close 2025, it’s time to choose our Board for the years ahead.
There are six seats up for election. While we are fortunate to have incumbents for all of them, this is an opportunity to add a fresh perspective, benefit from the experience of current officeholders, or to self-nominate if you wish to serve.
The only prerequisites to participate are receiving at least one paycheck from Procter & Gamble and being an officially registered member at www.pgalums.com. The nomination form will only be accessible to registered members.
Here are some things you need to know. The Global Alumni Network Board operates purely on a volunteer basis. Board Members are expected to participate in at least 10 out of 12 monthly board meetings and to take active ownership of at least one of the engagement activities and committees. To be representative and profit from diversity, we seek participation across all global time zones.
The nomination period will run from October 2 – October 28, 2025. Then, the Nomination Committee will review the nominations and make a recommendation to the Board for the candidates to be included in the election period that will run from November 1 – November 15, 2025.
Election results will be announced through our Network Newsletter and all social media channels between December 5 – 10, 2025.
If there are any questions, please contact Elsie Gallegos, Chief of Staff, at egallegos@pgalums.com
Please be advised that the only way to self-nominate or nominate someone will be through the nomination form. Each nominee should fill out the form to be included on the ballot.
